History was made in the Cork 20 International Rally as Oldcastle lady Jenna Mc Cann clinched the Clonakilty Blackpudding Junior Irish Tarmac Championship after a tight tussle which went down to the wire. From the start of the year Jenna had made her presence known to the rest of the competitors and in the second half of the year she was well in the hunt for the overall championship spoils. Coming into the final round it would be a straight shootout between herself and Galway man Justin Ryan with first past the post winning the championship. With Ryan fast out the blocks Saturday morning it was up to Mc Cann to be the hunter after the hare as she would start to chip away at Ryan’s margin and put pressure on always being guided round the roads by John Mc Cabe. As Sunday went on Mc Cann slipped ahead of Ryan and forced him to make a mistake which dropped a lot of time with 2 stages to go. In the end it was a case of keeping the head and bringing the Fiesta home to be crowned the Junior champion and make history as the first lady to win an overall Irish title.
