Mickey Conlon and Ciaran Mc Philips starred on the recent Sligo Stages Rally as they showed the way home for the talented 2 wheel drive entry.
With the tricky and trecherous conditions over the wet shiny tar taking a lot of victims during the morning Conlon and Mc Philips would bide their time and make sure they kept their noses clean over the first 3 stages to lead the class from Sean Liston’s BMW by 20 seconds. Over the middle loop of the day the pair began to charge picking off some of the faster 4 wd opposition over the ex Rally Ireland stages which had taken on the characteristics of those treacherous January stages with the foul weather making life uncomfortable for many crews.
Further down the field in the little giant killing 1400 escort was Damien O’Reilly who had Daire Maguire on the notes for the day as the pair would put to good use their lack of power and narrow wheels as they would make the stage times painful reading for the more powerful opposition. their reward at the end would be the class win by a mile and 29th overall.
Second in class 9 would be a man returning to Nova action all be it in the navigators seat. Adrian Foley would lend his years of experience to Philip Harte in his atomic Nova as he would struggle around the stages which were ice like at times in the rain. Their reward would be 2nd in the class and 40th overall.
