Donegal saw the final chapter of the 2016 Triton showers national championship played out on the testing but picturesque roads around the fishing village of Killybegs which saw 8 demanding stages flow around the coastal region.

Oldcastle man Gary Mc Namee would go to the north west to chase his dream of becoming the National Junior Champion.

With local man Micheal Boyle being the big opposition for the title it was shaping up to be a classic battle.

With Boyle succumbing to the pressure on the opening stage it would make life a little easier for Mc Namee on the following stages but with the pressure of having to finish still on his mind a small moment of panic when a technical issue developed in the Honda Civic with 3 stages to go forcing Gary to nurse the car through to the finish to claim the momentous win that gains a test in the new Toyota Gt86 and a nomination to the Billy Coleman award for the young rally driver of the year where he joins fellow Cavan men Chris Armstrong and Gary Kiernan for the big prize at the end of the year.
