Mickey Conlon and Ciaran Mc Philips took the start of the Waterford based Ravens Rock rally with a view to consolidating their lead in the South east stages championship.
The event would take in a loop of 2 stages 3 times in typical sunny south east conditions. It would be a good consistent day for the MC Blinds escort as the pair would finish the first stage 6th overall and leading the class. A spin on stage 2 would cost them 20 seconds as they would have to push hard to claw back the time and hold onto the class lead ahead of Paul Purtill.
Mickey would leave the final service with a 16 second lead over Purtill with 2 to go when a warning shot came in from the Purtill camp as the Mc Blinds car lost 11 seconds on the penultimate stage from a little bit too much relaxation “thought I had it in the bag”. Going into the final stage Mickey and Ciaran knew what they had to do and resumed their push from earlier in the day to take the fastest 2wd time on the stage and with that continue to hold onto their Southeast championship lead and lift the Paul Mulcahy perpetual trophy for their class victory joining previous winners Declan Gallagher and Gary Kiernan on the prestigious cup.
