The Enniskillen based Lakeland stages rally is one of the showpiece events for forestry rallying on this island. This year would see Bailieborough man James Fulton realise a lifelong ambition when he would partner Sam Moffett in the Combilift Fiesta WRC to a controlled and entertaining win.
The deal was struck in the weeks leading up to the event and with some stiff opposition on the day it would be no walk in the park for the duo. They started as they meant to go on with a fastet time over the opening Lough Navar stage to eke out a 4 second lead ahead of Waterford based Andrew Purcell in his evo 9, on the second stage it would be Josh Moffett who would take the initiative and post fastest time to take the lead over the fiesta.
The third stage Ballintempo was the stage to make your mark and Sam and James deffinately made their intentions known by taking 13 seconds out of Josh to go into an 11 second lead. For the rest of the day the Fiesta would remain untroubled at the top of the leaderboard to take an emphatic win and round off a successful weekend for Fulton who should be getting well used to this winning craic!
Further back Mickey Conlon and Ciaran Mc Phillips would bring the MC Blinds escort home 2nd in class 6 and 15th overall. Mickey spending the day trying out different settings and gathering useful forestry championship points aswell
It would be a points gathering exercise from John Gordon and Thomas Wedlock aswell who would finish the day 3rd in class 5 and 19th overall.
